1/5 stars – Overhyped junk that fails at the basics
I bought the Magic Johns (or MAGIC JOHN) 240W 4-in-1 USB Fast Charging Cable expecting a convenient all-in-one solution. What I got was a chunky, gimmicky disappointment that underperforms in almost every way that matters.
The “240W” claim is pure marketing fluff. Even with a high-wattage GaN charger, real-world speeds on my phone and laptop were nowhere near the advertised numbers. Charging felt average at best—sometimes slower than a basic $8 cable. The 480 Mbps data transfer is USB 2.0 era speeds; transferring files was painfully slow compared to any modern cable.
The 4-in-1 design is more annoying than useful. The connectors feel bulky and poorly seated. One of the USB-C ends already has intermittent connection issues after a couple of weeks of normal use. The Lightning end is particularly finicky and sometimes needs to be wiggled to even register. Carrying around this thick, multi-headed octopus is less convenient than just keeping two decent single cables.
The “premium” silicone and zinc alloy build is overstated. It feels cheap and soft in a way that attracts dust and lint. The RGB breathing lights are a useless gimmick—bright enough to be distracting at night and completely pointless during the day. There’s no way to turn them off.
Durability is already showing cracks. After light daily use the jacket is starting to feel less flexible and one of the strain reliefs looks stressed. For the price, this should last years; instead it already feels like it’s on borrowed time.
Customer support and the short warranty don’t inspire confidence either. This is classic cheap multi-tool cable territory: tries to do everything, does nothing well, and relies on flashy lights and exaggerated wattage claims to sell.
Save your money. Buy a couple of reputable single-purpose cables (Anker, Apple, or even a solid no-name USB-C) instead of this overpromised, underwhelming mess.
