iPhone Duo pre-orders open tomorrow, Friday, October 16, at 5:00 a.m. PT, according to Tom's Guide, with availability starting October 23. At $1,999 and up, it's one of the biggest phone purchases you can make. Here's what to decide before you order: which storage and color, where to buy, what to do about your trade-in, whether to add AppleCare+ and what to buy to protect it. As of October 15, 2026, the Duo hasn't shipped, so everything about how it performs is still Apple's own claims.

Should You Buy It?
It may suit you if:
- You want a larger screen for reading, video or multitasking and you're comfortable paying for it.
- You already use iPhone and the Apple ecosystem.
- You're curious about foldables and can accept being an early adopter.
You may want to wait or choose another phone if:
- Your budget is tight. The iPhone 18 Pro costs hundreds less (see our iPhone Duo vs iPhone 18 Pro comparison).
- You want to see independent reviews first. Nothing has been tested outside Apple's own claims, and reviews will appear after launch.

Storage and Color
The Duo comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Each step costs more, and Engadget reports the 2TB model is $3,199. 256GB is the starting point. If you shoot a lot of video, store large files on the phone or keep it for several years, consider more. If you're comfortable with cloud storage, the base model may be enough.
There are two colors, star white and night sky. Apple's Get Ready tool lets you choose in advance, and changing color or storage at the last minute may affect your delivery estimate.

Where to Buy
- Apple: the Apple Online Store or Apple Store app. Apple's Get Ready page lets you save your choices before pre-orders open.
- Carriers: AT&T has announced up to $1,200 off with an eligible trade-in, spread over 36 monthly credits. See our AT&T deal explainer for the conditions.
- Retailers: check the retailer's page for current offers.
Prices and offers change, so confirm them with Apple or the retailer before you pay.
Trade-In and AppleCare+
Trade-in. Engadget reports trade-in credit of up to $885 at Apple. Your actual value depends on your phone and its condition, so get a quote from Apple and your carrier before you order. Carrier credits often arrive over many months, so read the terms.
AppleCare+. The Duo's repair prices are high. Apple's repair page lists out-of-warranty inner display damage at $999 and "other damage" at $1,499. According to 9to5Mac, AppleCare+ lowers the inner display fee to $99 for a plan at $19.99 a month.

Pre-Order Checklist
- Use Apple's Get Ready tool to save your color, storage, carrier and payment details.
- Check your Apple Account. Confirm your card hasn't expired and your billing and shipping addresses are right.
- Get your trade-in quote in advance.
- Decide on financing. Confirm which options you qualify for with Apple, your carrier or your card.
- Be ready at 5:00 a.m. PT on Friday, with the Apple Store app on your phone and Apple's site in a browser as a backup.
- If shipping slips, consider in-store pickup. Tom's Guide notes stores may have separate stock.
- Line up your protection so it's ready when the phone arrives (see below).
Engadget also reports that rumors point to limited launch supply, so being ready matters.

Protecting Your iPhone Duo
Magic John now offers two accessories made for the iPhone Duo:
- iPhone Duo outer display screen protector: helps protect the outer display from everyday scratches. Apple's outer display uses Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says has "3x better scratch resistance than the previous generation," but no glass is scratch-proof, and a protector adds a layer you can replace.
- iPhone Duo camera lens protector: covers the rear camera lenses, which are exposed every time you set the phone down.
To be clear about what they do and don't cover: our screen protector is for the outer display. It isn't for the inner folding display. Apple says the inner display has its own scratch-resistant coating and a polymer cover layer, so follow Apple's guidance on caring for it and don't remove any factory layers unless Apple says to. A protector helps with scratches and scuffs, but it won't stop every crack, and it doesn't replace AppleCare+. For installation, see our installation tutorial.
Accessories are model-specific, so nothing made for the iPhone 18 Pro will fit the Duo. If you're also keeping or trading in your current iPhone, we make screen protectors, lens protectors and cases for the iPhone 18 Pro.
