iPhone Duo Sold Out: Delivery Dates, Where to Buy and What to Do Now

iPhone Duo pre-orders opened at 5:00 a.m. PT this morning, October 16, and delivery estimates slipped within minutes. As of this morning, Apple's online store shows a January 25 delivery estimate for every US configuration, according to MacRumors, and Tom's Guide describes Apple.com as sold out. Here's what we know about shipping dates, where you might still get one and how to get ready. This changes quickly, so check each seller for current dates.

What Happened

Pre-orders started at 5:00 a.m. PT on Friday. According to MacRumors, customers who ordered right at 5 a.m. PT are scheduled for delivery on Friday, October 23, while the Apple online store's estimates for new orders have moved into 2027. The Apple Post reports that estimates for some configurations slipped past October 23 within minutes of pre-orders opening.

Apple hasn't said how many units it has. MacRumors notes that Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported supply would be limited and that earlier reports cited production yield problems. Apple has not confirmed either, so treat the reason as reported, not official.

Delivery Dates by Seller

These are the estimates reported on October 16 by Tom's Guide and MacRumors. They shift as orders come in.

Seller Reported delivery estimate
Apple (online, US) January 25 for all configurations (earliest orders: October 23)
Best Buy As early as November 3. Each model is tied to a specific carrier.
AT&T November 9
Verizon November 14 (256GB white)
T-Mobile (direct) Mid-December
Walmart A 256GB Star White T-Mobile model was listed to arrive by October 27

Apple's dates are the furthest out. MacRumors also notes Apple's online store no longer offers delivery before Christmas for the iPhone Duo.

How to Still Get One

  1. Compare carriers and retailers, not just Apple. Tom's Guide notes that other sellers show earlier dates than Apple.com. If you buy at Best Buy, make sure you pick the model for the right carrier.
  2. Try Apple Stores on launch day, October 23. The Apple Post reports Apple says customers can see the phone in person at all Apple Store locations from launch, but stock is likely to be limited. Check Apple's website or the Apple Store app that morning before you travel.
  3. Watch for store pickup. MacRumors reports that Apple Store pickup was disabled and Apple told customers to check back on Saturday, October 24. Apple has previously held store inventory separately from home delivery, so a late shipping date doesn't rule out in-store stock.
  4. Be flexible. Stock varies by color (star white or night sky) and storage (256GB to 2TB).
  5. Avoid inflated resale prices. Tom's Guide warns that resellers charge far above retail and doesn't recommend them. Buy from Apple, carriers or authorized retailers.

Should You Wait?

If your delivery date is weeks or months away, that has an upside. Independent reviews are due once the first units reach customers, and you'll know more about the crease, the hinge and battery life before your phone arrives. Check our guides to the iPhone Duo buying guide and iPhone Duo vs iPhone 18 Pro. If you need a phone sooner, the iPhone 18 Pro is available now and costs hundreds less.

While you wait, back up your current phone, and check how long any trade-in quote or carrier offer is valid. Terms vary, so read them carefully.

Get Your Protection Ready

Your phone may arrive later, but you can have protection ready when it does. Magic John has these for the iPhone Duo:

What they do and don't do: our screen protector is for the outer display, not the inner folding display. For the inner display, follow Apple's care guidance, and don't remove any factory layers unless Apple says to. These products help with scratches and everyday knocks, but they can't guarantee against cracks, and they don't replace AppleCare+. Apple's estimated repair costs run from $379 for the outer display to $999 for the inner display, so it's worth thinking about both. See our installation tutorial before you apply a protector.
