iPhone Duo One Week Later: Reviews, Apple’s Response, Protection

The one-week verdict

MacRumors published a one-week review on October 30. The reviewer called it the most excited he has been about an iPhone in a long time. Highlights from that review:

• Opening the phone helps with multitasking and watching video alongside another app.
• Battery life falls between the iPhone 18 Pro and the Pro Max, and most people will likely get a full day.

The display issue: where things stand

Apple has said it is aware of an issue affecting the inner display on "a small number" of iPhone Duo units, and that affected users should contact AppleCare for a replacement. On October 30, MacRumors reported that Apple sent a memo to stores and service providers on handling the problem.

The MacRumors reviewer noted that a Duo that has worked fine for a week is unlikely to have this defect, and that no one on the MacRumors staff had a display crack. We covered the earlier reports in our hinge cracking explainer.

MacRumors' roundup of what iOS 27.2 adds includes Apple Pencil USB-C support on the iPhone Duo. The update was released on October 26.
