The iPhone Duo goes on sale today, Friday, October 23, and the questions are piling up: Can you actually get one? Is it worth $1,999? Which color? What does it cost outside the U.S.? Does it take a physical SIM? And why are so many delivery dates in 2027? This guide answers each one with sources, and covers how to protect the outer display, the camera lenses and the body from day one.
Availability and release date
Apple opened iPhone Duo pre-orders on October 16. The phone goes on sale Friday, October 23 in the U.S. and more than 70 other countries and regions, with 28 more following on October 30, according to MacRumors. Apple's launch list includes Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Singapore and the U.K.
If you didn't pre-order, expect tight stock. MacRumors said it expects Apple Store inventory on launch day to be "very tight," and that Apple's store directed shoppers to check back on October 24 to reserve a store pickup slot. Availability varies by store and carrier, so check Apple's site and your carrier's site directly.
Why there are delays
Within about 30 minutes of pre-orders opening, Apple's U.S. online store showed a January 25 ship date for every configuration. MacRumors also reported that Bloomberg's Mark Gurman described the supply as severely constrained.
Two updates since then:
- On October 19, MacRumors reported that Apple was moving up delivery dates for some existing pre-orders in the U.S. and Japan, in some cases by weeks.
- The same day, MacRumors reported that Apple limits U.S. orders to two iPhone Duo per customer.
As of October 22, 2026, estimates can change from day to day and differ by carrier and configuration. Check your own order page. Our earlier posts have more on the sold-out situation and the pre-order details.
Is the iPhone Duo worth it?
It depends on what you want from a phone. Based on Apple's specs and Tom's Guide's pre-order assessment:
Reasons you might buy it
- It's Apple's first foldable: a 5.4-inch outer display that opens to a 7.6-inch inner display.
- IP68 dust and water resistance, a titanium frame and Ceramic Shield glass on the outer display.
- Side-by-side multitasking and Apple Pencil support (USB-C Apple Pencil, per Tom's Guide).
Reasons you might skip or wait
- The price starts at $1,999 for 256GB, which Tom's Guide notes is $700 more than the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
- Tom's Guide points out there's no telephoto lens and some Pro camera features are missing.
- Some MagSafe accessories may fit awkwardly because the phone is shorter than standard iPhones, per the same review.
- Tom's Guide also notes that a second-generation model may fix early issues.

Colors and storage
Per Apple's store page, the iPhone Duo comes in two colors, Star White and Night Sky, and four storage sizes. U.S. unlocked prices:
| Storage | U.S. price (unlocked) |
|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,999 |
| 512GB | $2,199 |
| 1TB | $2,599 |
| 2TB | $3,199 |
Carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) advertise trade-in offers that depend on eligibility and plan terms.
Prices around the world
Here is the base 256GB model in several markets, using local launch prices reported by iOS Hacker and USD conversions published October 6 by Letem světem Applem.
| Market | Local price (256GB) | Approx. USD |
|---|---|---|
| United States | $1,999 | $1,999 (before tax) |
| Canada | C$2,999 | about $2,216 |
| United Kingdom | £1,999 | about $2,652 |
| Germany | €2,299 | n/a |
| Australia | A$3,499 | about $2,433 |
| India | ₹299,900 | about $3,124 |
| UAE | AED 8,499 | about $2,314 |
Treat the dollar conversions as rough: exchange rates move, and local prices may or may not include tax. The U.S. price excludes sales tax. Check Apple's local site for the exact figure where you live.
Is the iPhone Duo eSIM only?
Yes. Apple's store page says the iPhone Duo "is activated with an eSIM and does not support a physical SIM." MacRumors reports it is eSIM-only worldwide, with no country exceptions. That differs from the iPhone 18 Pro, which still has a physical SIM tray in many countries outside the U.S. (including the U.K., the rest of Europe and Australia).
In practice, that means you need a carrier that supports eSIM and an active plan to activate it. If you travel, check whether your destination carrier or a travel eSIM provider offers eSIM.
Choosing an iPhone Duo case
Apple's store page lists no first-party cases at the time of writing, so the choice is up to you. Because the Duo is a foldable with a hinge and two displays, a few things matter more than they do on a regular phone:
- Hinge access. The case shouldn't get in the way of opening and closing the phone.
- Fit. The Duo is shorter than standard iPhones, so a case made for another iPhone won't fit.
- Edge and corner coverage. The outer display and frame take the daily bumps when the phone is closed.
- Accessory compatibility. Tom's Guide says some MagSafe accessories fit awkwardly. Check before you buy a case with a magnet ring.
Magic John offers an iPhone Duo bundle with an outer-display screen protector and a phone case, so you can protect the phone with one order.
Protecting your Duo from day one
A $1,999 phone is worth protecting before the first drop, not after. Magic John currently offers three Duo products:
- Outer-display screen protector. This covers the outer display only. It is not made for the inner folding display.
- Camera lens protector. Covers the rear camera lenses.
- Bundle: screen protector + phone case. The outer-display film and a case together.
The inner display needs care too. Apple does not recommend peeling or adding aftermarket films to a folding screen, so please don't stick a regular protector on it. Our products stay on the outer display for that reason. Browse everything on the iPhone Duo collection page.
Coming soon: matte screen protector
We are also working on a matte screen protector, which is coming soon. Matte finishes are popular with people who want less glare and fewer fingerprints. We'll share details here as soon as it's ready, so check back.
